Features: This book primarily introduces the theoretical and methodological essentials of the "Theoretical Mechanics" course, as well as problem-solving techniques. Its purpose is twofold: first, to help readers apply the fundamental concepts, theories, and methods of theoretical mechanics to analyze and solve problems; second, to deepen their understanding of these concepts, theories, and methods through the problem-solving process. The chapter arrangement of this book is largely consistent with the current theoretical mechanics textbooks used in higher education institutions. The content is divided into four parts: teaching requirements and learning objectives, key theoretical points, study suggestions, and solved examples. In the solved examples section, certain common errors that beginners are prone to are analyzed. This book can be used as a reference for students in ordinary universities and colleges studying "Theoretical Mechanics," with the main textbook "Theoretical Mechanics" compiled by Fan Qinshan and others. Some content with a certain depth and difficulty, as well as related example analyses, provide reference materials for teachers engaged in theoretical mechanics teaching and students preparing for postgraduate entrance exams.
[Preface] Theoretical mechanics studies the laws of mechanical motion of objects under the action of forces. Through the study of theoretical mechanics, people not only gain an understanding of various phenomena in daily production and life but also develop the ability to analyze and solve engineering problems in fields such as civil engineering, mechanical manufacturing, water conservancy, power engineering, petroleum and chemical engineering, nuclear reactor engineering, and aerospace, as theoretical mechanics is the foundation of these engineering sciences. How to learn the basic concepts and theories of theoretical mechanics, master their fundamental analytical methods, and apply them to analyze and solve practical engineering problems is a concern for students in most engineering disciplines in higher education institutions as well as for engineering professionals in related fields. The purpose of compiling this study guide and problem-solving manual for theoretical mechanics is not only to introduce problem-solving methods but also to provide some study strategies for beginners to help them master theoretical mechanics. The process of analyzing and solving problems is both an application of basic concepts, theories, and methods and a process of deepening understanding. Before solving a problem, one should have a comprehensive and correct understanding of the relevant basic concepts, theories, and methods. When solving a problem, one must first clarify what the given conditions are, what is required, and what nature the problem belongs to; second, based on the problem's nature, analyze which basic concepts and theories are needed to solve it; third, based on the above analysis, summarize the problem-solving process and steps, and calculate the required results; finally, one should use relevant concepts and theories to judge and check whether the obtained results are correct. Practical experience in teaching mechanics has shown that only in this way can the purpose of solving problems be achieved, and by solving problems, readers can gradually master the methods of applying these theories to analyze and solve problems.
In accordance with the above requirements, each chapter first briefly introduces the fundamental theories and methods; then, through several solved examples, it demonstrates the methods for analyzing and solving problems, while also analyzing some common errors that beginners are prone to. The chapter arrangement of this book is generally consistent with the systematic structure of current theoretical mechanics textbooks in China. However, considering that the focus of this book is on introducing problem-solving methods, there are slight differences in the arrangement of some chapters compared to current textbooks. Due to the author's limited expertise, shortcomings and errors in this book are inevitable. We sincerely welcome criticism and corrections from readers.
