Can you have sexual intercourse during pregnancy?

Patient's question:

My wife has had a child who is now twenty-one months old. She is now pregnant with her second child, who is seven and a half months along. Since becoming pregnant, she has been unwilling to have sex with me and is shy. Sometimes, when she changes clothes in the room, she hides from me and is afraid I'll see her. Occasionally, when I take a nap, she gets turned on and really wants me to be with her. My mom accompanied my wife to the hospital for a thorough check-up. When she came back, she told me what the doctor said: that it is not advisable for them to have sex now. Is that really true?

Doctor's answer:

Women are prohibited from engaging in sexual activity during the first three months of pregnancy to avoid miscarriage or threatened miscarriage. In the second trimester of pregnancy, it is appropriate to have sexual activity, but it should not be too frequent, as this may also lead to irregular uterine contractions, potentially causing miscarriage, preterm labor, or other issues. Therefore, it is recommended not to force your wife and to prioritize her well-being. Rest is highly recommended during pregnancy, and excessive fatigue should be avoided.
