Planning to have a second baby now that your first is almost one year old, what should you do?

Patient's question:

Preparing for a second pregnancy, the baby is now almost one year old. I stopped breastfeeding in September, and I started having regular periods in July. My period came on July 28th. Then on August 22nd, I had another period. In September, I didn't have one until October 19th, when it came and lasted until October 27th. However, I don't know when my ovulation period is. I started testing for menopause on the 9th, and it felt like the results were the same for all the days except the 9th. Is it past ovulation or not yet?

Doctor's answer:

Dear consultant, was the first baby delivered vaginally or via cesarean section? You have just completely resumed your menstrual cycle, which is normal if it's not very regular. If the first baby was delivered vaginally, you can start preparing for pregnancy now since your menstrual cycle has just returned and may not be very regular. It is recommended that you let nature take its course and not be too anxious.
