Features: The early form of the Sunflower Series for the Judicial Examination was the "Outline of the National Lawyer Qualification Examination" co-authored by Professor Fu Ying and Professor Wang Feng. It was internally printed in Beijing from 1997 to 2000 and gained immense popularity among candidates in the capital. Due to strong demand from candidates, it was officially published in 2003. Later, the two professors personally revised and oversaw its multiple reprints. The Sunflower Series for the Judicial Examination is guided by a scientific layout and is highly suitable for both the judicial examination and guiding judicial practice. The core motivation behind Professor Fu Ying and Professor Wang Feng's writing of this series was to demonstrate the rigor and practicality of their work through profound knowledge, while enhancing the effectiveness of the material in preparing for the exam. From the main content arrangement to the design of the format and the aesthetic cover style, the series has captivated candidates and inspired numerous publishers to follow suit.
One of the series, "Advanced Course for the National Judicial Examination," though named a "course," features an innovative layout and extensive knowledge content that surpasses ordinary exam preparation books. Its professionalism is sufficient to serve as a college-level law textbook. If students study this book diligently, accumulate knowledge, and not only master the judicial examination but also lay a solid professional foundation for future legal careers, it is because the book subtly imparts the invaluable legal thinking of a legal professional through its unique structure, narrative, and reasoning methods while teaching legal knowledge.
Some students complain that the series is too heavy and difficult to handle. However, it must be noted that the judicial examination has become increasingly challenging over the years and is no longer the same as the lawyer qualification exam from years ago. Under such circumstances, it is impossible to pass the exam through short-term cramming. Relying on a book that simply highlights "essentials" or "key points" and expecting to pass the exam through quick study is nothing but a misguided approach. The two professors did not cater to or encourage this wrong mindset but continued to dedicate their efforts with a scientific and pragmatic attitude. Despite being called the "Sunflower Treasure," the series contains no shortcuts or tricks.
The "Advanced Course for the National Judicial Examination" includes eight volumes: "Civil Law," "Criminal Law," "Civil Procedure Law and Arbitration Law," "Criminal Procedure Law," "Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure Law," "International Law · Private International Law · International Economic Law," "Commercial Law and Economic Law," and "Jurisprudence · Legal History · Constitution · Legal Ethics." These volumes are organized around the national judicial examination syllabus and are based on laws, regulations, and (supplementary judicial interpretations). The content is written according to subject categories. The book adopts academic consensus and creatively divides the layout of each chapter into four levels:
Level 1: Key Points Summary—Lists the relatively important points of each section. The precision of the Key Points Summary lies in its direct focus on the section's core, using concise language to clarify the intrinsic logic of the law and create a comprehensive learning framework. It helps students understand which knowledge to absorb during revision to complete this framework and solidify it in memory. Without this level, jumping directly to "key points" would yield poor results, which is precisely the significance of the Key Points Summary.
Level 2: Relevant Legal Provisions—Gathers important provisions that may be tested, arranged scientifically for easy association. This level organizes provisions related to each section based on their importance. The cited provisions include those commonly found in general "Judicial Examination Laws and Regulations Compilation" but also those not mentioned there but crucial for solving special problems and understanding legislative intent, such as "Supreme People's Court Resolutions" and "Supreme People's Court Letters." Collecting comprehensive laws, regulations, and equally important yet overlooked "resolutions" and "letters" is a monumental task. Most judicial examination guides only reference the "Laws and Regulations Compilation" and ignore these equally vital or more easily understandable and widely used "resolutions" and "letters." Professor Fu Ying and Professor Wang Feng keenly recognized the importance of this content. Additionally, under a specific legal system, besides the relevant laws and regulations, provisions from closely related legal systems that are easily confused or may serve as exam points are also given thorough attention. This allows students to compare, generalize, and interconnect key knowledge, achieving twice the result with half the effort. This effort makes the "Relevant Legal Provisions" level more comprehensive than ordinary "Key Legal Provisions" books while being far more concise than general "Laws and Regulations Compilations." It can fully replace both "Key Legal Provisions" and "Laws and Regulations Compilations."
Level 3: Commentary on Legal Provisions—Interprets the relevant legal provisions of each section. Based on the content of the "Relevant Legal Provisions," this level provides authoritative explanations of the true meaning of the provisions, avoiding misunderstandings and preventing students from getting stuck in dead ends. It also highlights easily confused or incorrect points in learning, enabling students not only to memorize the provisions but also to understand their essence. By remembering and applying the provisions with comprehension, success is inevitable.
Level 4: Solving the Section Puzzle—Fully understands the legislative intent and the examiner's reasoning, further clarifying the connections and applications of the provisions. This is the most valuable part of the series. It meticulously explains the extraction of key points, the direction of examination, why questions are posed from this angle, how to study the section more effectively, and how to review related knowledge while ensuring no important details are missed. The book provides precise discussions on these aspects. Additionally, it includes "Points to Note" in bold to clearly point out easily misunderstood, overlooked, or confused content.
Beyond fully absorbing the strengths of other judicial examination books and avoiding pitfalls, the two professors also innovated in language organization and narrative style, using plain yet clear language to explain complex legal issues. Their ability is truly remarkable, allowing students who have read the series to realize that law is not as obscure as it appears in ordinary eyes or books but is instead a sacred field filled with wisdom, mission, and allure.
Moreover, it is also very important to note that if you encounter difficulties while studying this book, you can visit the Sunflower Legal Forum (Sunflower Treasure Judicial Exam Forum www.khbd.com.cn) hosted by the two professors. Your questions will receive timely and authoritative free answers. The Sunflower Legal Forum gathers a large number of passionate legal professionals.
