What kind of help do you want: Last month, my period came on the 15th, but this month it didn't come on the 15th. My BF and I have had ML every day, and on the 16th, I took a pregnancy test which came out positive. I don't know if it's useless to take birth control pills after already being pregnant. My BF wants this child. If I do, will it affect the child?
Doctor's answer:
Levonorgestrel tablets, as emergency contraception, primarily contain levonorgestrel, which is a pure progestogen. The drug composition is safe, with a small dosage, and it can be rapidly eliminated from the body within 24–48 hours after ingestion. Therefore, neither the drug dosage nor its side effects are sufficient to cause adverse interference to the body. Whether taken during early pregnancy or shortly after taking the medication during early pregnancy, levonorgestrel tablets have no teratogenic effects on the fetus. Thus, regular prenatal check-ups are sufficient, and there is no need to worry excessively.
