Features: The "Military English" course integrates foreign language learning with military knowledge. Through the important international language carrier of English, it enables students to learn specialized military knowledge and information, such as military thought, military technology, military equipment, and military training. It aims to cultivate the ability to meet the practical needs of our armed forces in areas such as foreign borrowing, learning, publicity, and communication. This is an important component of the military education in the new era. However, due to the relatively late start of military professional English teaching, the vast number of specialized fields in the military domain, and the rapid evolution of modern military thought and the swift advancement of military technology, there has been no comprehensive and up-to-date series of military English textbooks until now. Under the guidance of the General Staff Department of Military Training, the "New Military English" series, compiled by institutions such as the PLA University of Science and Technology, the PLA International Relations College, and the PLA Foreign Languages College, fills this gap in foreign language teaching for military academies and meets the urgent needs of current military English education. This is undoubtedly a highly meaningful endeavor in implementing the spirit of teaching reform in military academies during the new era and promoting the improvement of talent cultivation quality in both academies and units. As an important part of academic education and continuous education for officers in military academies, this textbook aims to cultivate and enhance the users' ability to acquire, process, and communicate information in fields such as modern military theory and thought, military command and operations, military science and technology, and military education and training, using English as a tool. At the same time, this textbook serves as a window to English, enabling students in military academies and personnel in units to better understand the development of the global military situation and foreign armies, improving their military English proficiency, and adapting to the overall requirements of China's military transformation with Chinese characteristics. The textbook is divided into several volumes, appropriately combined according to the disciplines and majors currently offered in military academies, forming an interconnected yet relatively independent teaching system. In terms of writing, we strive to reflect the characteristics and patterns of modern English usage in the military field, mirror the current developments in the military domain, and meet the needs of different military professional English teaching programs, aligning with the requirements of cultivating high-quality new-generation military talents in the new era. The textbook primarily focuses on the application of English in the military field, emphasizing the improvement of users' military English knowledge and the cultivation of their ability to use English in military contexts. It is suitable for military academy students who have completed basic English learning, passed the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4), and possess intermediate English proficiency, as well as military personnel in units with equivalent English levels. The textbook can be used as a formal teaching material for specialized English instruction in military academies, continuous education for command and science and technology personnel in units, and English teaching and training for scientific and technological drills in units. It can also serve as an intermediate-level English reading material for popularizing military professional knowledge. Additionally, it can be used as a supplementary textbook for the "Military English" key network course organized by the General Staff Department of Military Training.
