Features: The Study Guide for College English Intensive Reading is a supplementary teaching material designed to accompany the College English Intensive Reading textbook published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. The book aims to embody the philosophy of being student-centered, starting from the actual situation of students, fully considering the various difficulties encountered in the English learning process, and striving to save students valuable time while improving learning efficiency. Specific features include:
1. The translation of text passages and detailed explanations of difficulties are arranged side by side at the beginning of each unit, making it particularly convenient for students to keep pace with the teacher's lectures. For difficulties encountered during lectures, students can refer to the translation on the left for synchronous understanding or compare and reference the detailed explanations on the right, thereby doubling their learning efficiency.
2. Translation of text annotations. Many students find it challenging to fully grasp the English annotations in the text, so we have translated all English annotations in the text into Chinese, believing this will greatly benefit students during their preview of the text.
3. Since most of the passages in the textbook are derived from original English works, their wide range of topics, profound ideas, and complex backgrounds make it difficult for students from different cultural backgrounds to understand them. To help students better grasp the essence of the articles, we have included a "Background Knowledge of the Text" section.
4. Based on the College English Teaching Syllabus and the College English Test Band 4 and 6 Syllabus, we provide detailed explanations of key vocabulary in the text. We strive to help students summarize memory techniques, introduce relevant common phrases, and include a typical exam question for testing, thereby helping them build a solid vocabulary foundation.
5. Emphasis on distinguishing easily confused words. As English learning progresses, students encounter more synonyms, and these synonyms add to the difficulty of learning English, leading to frequent mistakes in various communication contexts and in the College English Test Band 4 and 6. Therefore, in this section, we compare and analyze these easily confused words to help students clarify their actual meanings in different linguistic contexts.
6. To closely integrate regular college English learning with the Band 4 exam, we have arranged () throughout the units, ensuring they are woven into the entire college English textbook learning process. For these, after students practice them, we provide serious analysis and explanations to help them adapt early and pass the exam smoothly.
7. Reference answers are provided for all post-unit exercises, followed by Chinese translations of the answers. Any difficulties are further explained.
8. Considering the special importance of reading comprehension, which accounts for 40% of the College English Test Band 4, we have specially designed reading skill guidance and included translations of textbook reading materials to help students pay due attention to reading.
9. In the College English Test Band 4, writing accounts for 15%. Years of exam experience have shown that without regular writing practice, it is difficult to achieve ideal results in the exam. In fact, writing not only needs training but also targeted training. To ensure students' training is on the right track, we have arranged writing skill guidance and analysis of (), hoping this systematic guidance and practice will help students build a solid foundation in writing.
10. The last item in each unit is the Band 4 Achievement Test with Explanations. This is a comprehensive test for each unit, with question types and difficulty levels similar to those of the Band 4 exam. After the test questions, reference answers and detailed solutions are provided. We hope that through self-assessment, students can not only understand their mastery of the unit but also determine their future areas of focus.
