Features: News English has long been favored by Chinese English learners for its clear narrative and expression, natural and appropriate word usage, and concise language. VOA and BBC's news English programs have always been the first choice for Chinese English learners. However, due to various constraints such as time and environment, as well as the lack of sufficient supplementary exercises, English learners are unable to engage in intensive listening, making it difficult to quickly grasp the characteristics of news English and achieve rapid improvement in listening skills. In light of this, based on extensive feedback from English learners, we selected and compiled materials from VOA news reports, creating VOA Standard English Listening: News English I. When selecting materials, the following factors were primarily considered: 1. Prioritizing the inclusion of the most recent content while ensuring it reflects the characteristics of news English; 2. Broadening the scope of reporting to enrich knowledge; 3. Organizing exercises to focus on functional materials for assessment and training, with informational materials as a supplement. This book consists of four parts: exercises, answers, listening transcripts, and reference translations. Due to the fast pace, each lesson's recording is played twice. This book is suitable for English majors at the undergraduate level or postgraduate students in non-English majors as a listening textbook or supplementary material. It can also be used by learners with a certain foundation to practice listening and expand their knowledge.
