Features: The introduction section primarily outlines the background and significance of the research topic, reviews and analyzes the history and current state of rural governance studies, defines the meanings of relevant concepts, and briefly introduces several theoretical methods used in the research process. The logical structure of the main text is presented from a temporal perspective, divided into three units: , a historical examination and analysis of the structure of rural governance in China. (1) The hypothesis that the framework of "official authority—local elites—clan organizations" is a reasonable tool for explaining the evolution of China's rural governance patterns is proposed, which suggests that in the traditional rural governance structure of China, there exist three sets of authority systems: official authority, local elites, and clan organizations. (2) It describes and interprets the grassroots administrative offices at the county level and above during the late Qing Dynasty, the pseudonymous grassroots governance under Japanese colonial rule, rural self-governance under the Nationalist government, and rural governance in base areas and liberated zones during the democratic revolution. (3) It analyzes the construction and adjustment of the power structure and functions of contemporary rural governance in China. Second, it examines the increase of factors related to rural self-governance during the transition period. First, it provides a scan of the rural governance environment after the reform and opening-up. Second, it analyzes the characteristics of rural governance structures and systems during the transition period. Third, after reviewing the rise and development of village governance, it critically evaluates its physiological and pathological aspects, predicts the development trends of village governance, and highlights the insights derived from village governance. Third, it describes the ideal model of China's future rural governance structure.
