Features: In response to the request of a large number of non-English major candidates for the 2007 National Master's Entrance Unified Examination, we organized experts and professors to meticulously compile this 2007 National Master's Entrance Unified Examination · Postgraduate Entrance English Exam Syllabus Vocabulary Usage Handbook based on the terms promulgated by the Ministry of Education. During the compilation process, the following features are highlighted:
1. This book provides detailed Chinese definitions and phonetic transcriptions for the vocabulary in the syllabus. Candidates should pay special attention to the less common meanings of familiar words. For example, the word act must be familiar with its meaning of "law" or "regulation," not just "action" or "behavior." The less common meaning of late as "deceased" has appeared in reading comprehension questions in the exam. If candidates fail to understand this meaning and lose 2 points, it would be a pity.
2. Synonyms are appropriately categorized for memory aid, helping candidates to generalize and apply their knowledge.
3. A large number of phrases not included in the syllabus but necessary for the exam are listed, as unfamiliarity with phrases can directly affect performance. Additionally, this revision no longer includes out-of-syllabus words to reduce candidates' burden. Since the syllabus does not provide Chinese definitions, multiple meanings and related phrases of words may be involved. Therefore, candidates are required to memorize every syllabus word comprehensively and accurately, rather than knowing only one meaning.
In light of this, the compilers, with the aim of solving candidates' practical problems, have explained the syllabus vocabulary as precisely as possible, covering the meanings required for the exam without being overly comprehensive, thereby genuinely alleviating candidates' burden.
Lastly, this concise and portable edition has a significant advantage: it allows candidates to utilize spare and fragmented time for review, facilitating reinforcement of memory, mastery, and application.
We sincerely thank the candidates who provided positive support and valuable feedback for the book last year, and we welcome all candidates to continue offering criticism and corrections.
