Features: With the rapid development of cardiovascular disease research, especially in the past decade, the widespread application of intracardiac electrophysiological examinations, coronary angiography, and interventional therapies has led to in-depth studies on the electrocardiogram (ECG) manifestations of various critical cardiovascular conditions. This has enhanced understanding and updated concepts, leading to the development of a branch of ECG known as emergency ECG. Utilizing the simple, non-invasive tool of surface conventional ECG recordings, it not only provides important diagnostic clues for various cardiac emergencies but also assists in risk stratification of the condition, thereby laying the foundation for rapid and effective treatment. Given that no such specialized books have been published in China so far, to meet the needs of emergency medicine, especially cardiac emergency care, we have compiled this Emergency ECG based on long-term clinical experience and the accumulation of expertise, combined with key content from recent representative international books on cardiac emergency ECG. The purpose is to improve the awareness of the significance of ECG in clinical practice, particularly for physicians in emergency departments and cardiology, as well as their diagnostic and differential diagnostic capabilities for cardiac emergencies. The book is divided into eight chapters, each beginning with a brief textual explanation followed by various ECG examples with annotations. The final chapter includes 100 cases of emergency ECGs for readers to review and self-assess their diagnostic skills, with answers and explanations provided at the end of the chapter.
Clearly, as an auxiliary diagnostic tool, ECG has its limitations, and some cardiac emergencies may not show ECG changes. Additionally, since the onset and progression of cardiac emergencies are dynamic processes, a normal ECG does not rule out certain cardiac emergencies, especially early acute myocardial infarction. For emergency patients with undetermined diagnoses, multiple ECG reviews and comparative analysis may sometimes provide important diagnostic clues. It must be emphasized that ECG findings must be evaluated comprehensively in the context of the patient's specific condition. Moreover, obtaining a thorough medical history at the bedside, conducting physical examinations, and systematically monitoring changes in the patient's condition remain the most important tasks for clinicians.
