During sexual activity, if you feel a slight pain in your lower abdomen, what could be the reason?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried about it affecting my fertility, and I also feel extremely cold and afraid of the cold. Could you please explain why I feel some pain in my lower abdomen during sexual activity?

Doctor's answer:

Hello; Post-coital abdominal pain mainly has two causes. One is physiological: During sexual intercourse, the thrusting of the male penis can cause intense stimulation to the female vagina, abdominal cavity, and pelvic organs, leading to rapid breathing and involuntary muscle contractions in the female body, which can cause pain. However, since sexual arousal masks the pain, it often manifests after intercourse. This is the most common scenario. Such post-coital abdominal pain is bearable and tends to resolve on its own. The other is pathological: If the female has underlying conditions in the abdominal or pelvic cavity, rough movements by the male, excessive speed and amplitude of thrusting, or too deep insertion can cause the penis to impact the affected area, resulting in abdominal pain.
