Features: Over half a century, China's music academia has made remarkable progress and achievements in the study of Chinese music history, especially ancient music history. This book fills and enriches the research on Chinese music history from a new academic perspective—namely, the perspective of music iconology. It is another significant academic achievement in this field following the publication of "Illustrated History of Chinese Music" edited by Mr. Liu Dongsheng and Mr. Yuan Quanyou in 1988, and "Chinese Musical Instruments" edited by Mr. Zhao Sa in 1991. The book consists of three parts: "Volume One: The Wonderful World of Music" covers the ancient era up to the Qin and Han dynasties; "Volume Two: The Awakening of Art" is set against the backdrop of the Three Kingdoms, Wei-Jin, Six Dynasties, Sui, and Tang dynasties; and "Volume Three: From Court to Marketplace" primarily elaborates on the diverse developments and new directions in music from the late Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The book is rich in content, well-organized, and particularly noteworthy for the selection and arrangement of its illustrations.
