Fetal Nuchal Translucency Concept

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I'm also extremely sensitive to cold and coldness. Could you please explain the concept of nuchal translucency in a fetus?

Doctor's answer:

NT, which stands for nuchal translucency, refers to the thickness of fluid accumulation in the subcutaneous tissue at the back of the fetus's neck. It can measure the thickness of the fetus's skin and subcutaneous tissue, still reflecting whether the fetal lymphatic drainage is unobstructed. It can be detected using early pregnancy tests after a delayed menstrual cycle. Two red lines on the test paper indicate a positive result, meaning pregnancy. A weakly positive urine test may suggest an ectopic pregnancy, but it cannot be confirmed. It is recommended to have blood tests to measure human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). If hCG levels are high, the likelihood of ectopic pregnancy is reduced.
