Features: This book takes the accumulation and flow of four basic economic elements as the entry point to explore the issue of industrial structure transformation in China's urban-rural dual economy. The transformation of the urban-rural dual economic structure is not merely a problem of factor allocation and spatial layout, but also involves a series of institutional changes (i.e., organizational systems and policy variables derived from the aforementioned elements). This book treats institutional change as an endogenous variable in the process of urban-rural dual economic transformation. As a constant companion of economic development, the urban-rural dual economic structure fluctuates with the reform process oriented toward the market economy. From a theoretical and long-term perspective, the dominant role of the market mechanism in the transformation of the urban-rural dual economic structure has been sufficiently supported by theoretical foundations and practical evidence. However, in the short term, due to differences in the initiation of market-oriented reforms and the phased characteristics of urban-rural dual economic transformation, the market mechanism may reinforce economic dualism, and its elimination requires the support of relevant organizational systems and policy variables. Only through the combined efforts of institutional change, the market mechanism, and the government can the transformation of the urban-rural dual economic structure be achieved, realizing coordinated development of urban and rural economies and societies.
