Can you eat Astragalus membranaceus when trying to conceive?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I also feel extremely cold and afraid of the cold. Can I take Astragalus for pre-pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is an infectious disease caused by enteroviruses, commonly occurring in children under the age of 5. It can cause blisters on the hands, feet, and mouth, and in some cases, it may lead to complications such as myocarditis, pulmonary edema, and aseptic meningitis. In rare cases, severe illness in children may progress rapidly, resulting in death.
Women in their normal fertile period ovulate once per month, with ovulation typically occurring around 14 days before the next menstrual period. An egg survives for about 1 day, while sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to 3 days. Therefore, sexual intercourse 3 days before ovulation and 1 day after ovulation may lead to pregnancy, known as the "dangerous period."
Outside of the dangerous period is the "safe period."
