Does one spouse need to be tested if the other has hepatitis C?

Patient's question:

I am very scared when this happens. I often experience lower abdominal pain and don't know how to solve it, so I came here to consult. May I ask if one partner in a couple should be tested for hepatitis C if the other has it?

Doctor's answer:

Hepatitis C is a disease caused by infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). HCV is a hepatotropic virus that primarily exists within liver cells, damaging them and causing inflammation, necrosis, and fibrosis. Hepatitis C is difficult to treat, and there is currently no specific medication available. You can try interferon therapy. If you have already had one child and your partner has a positive blood type, it is recommended not to have another child.
For individuals with Rh-negative blood, the first pregnancy is usually not associated with hemolysis. However, after the first pregnancy, antibodies develop, and subsequent pregnancies may lead to more severe hemolysis, making it difficult for the child to survive.
