When are women more likely to have increased leukorrhea?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I also feel extremely cold and afraid of the cold. Could you please tell me when women are more likely to have increased vaginal discharge?

Doctor's answer:

Leukorrhea is a viscous white liquid discharged from the vagina of women. It is composed of secretions from the Bartholin's glands, cervical glands, endometrial secretions, exudate from vaginal mucosa, and shed vaginal epithelial cells. Leukorrhea contains lactobacilli, lysozyme, and antibodies, which help inhibit bacterial growth. During sexual activity, leukorrhea increases, providing lubrication for the vagina to facilitate intercourse. Generally, leukorrhea increases in amount and becomes thin and transparent at the mid-cycle of menstruation; after ovulation, it becomes thick, cloudy, and less in quantity. Both before menstruation and during pregnancy, leukorrhea tends to increase.
