Is 24 weeks of amniotic fluid 6 normal?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I'm also extremely sensitive to cold and coldness. Is it normal to have 6 cm of amniotic fluid at 24 weeks?

Doctor's answer:

If it is greater than 25 cm, it is considered "polyhydramnios." Common causes of polyhydramnios include multiple pregnancies, fetal malformations (such as hydrocephalus), gastrointestinal obstruction, gestational diabetes, and unknown causes. If it is less than 5 cm, it is considered "oligohydramnios." The most common cause of oligohydramnios is "rupture of membranes," followed by fetal renal dysfunction or renal agenesis, and placental insufficiency, among others.
