History of China-France relations

Features: The study of China-France relations has been relatively less explored in the field of foreign relations history. A vast amount of material is scattered across works on foreign relations history, China's diplomatic history, or the history of imperialist aggression against China. Regarding the history of China-France relations after the establishment of diplomatic ties, most of the materials are found in newspapers. In recent years, some specialized research books have been published, but there remains a lack of systematic studies on China-France relations. Undeterred by difficulties, the author of this book has resolved to fill the gap in the field of foreign relations history research and has written "A History of China-France Relations."
A history of China-France relations, like the histories of China's relations with other Western countries, is both a bloody history of imperialist aggression against China and a history of the Chinese people's struggle against aggression. At the same time, it is the rise of the Chinese nation from its place among the world's nations and the history of a newly risen country engaging in equal interactions with other nations on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. The contemporary China-France relationship is also an exemplary case of friendly coexistence between countries with different social systems.
History serves as a guide for the present, and a nation that does not cherish its history is a foolish one—this is an undeniable truth. It is hoped that this book will make a modest contribution to promoting and nurturing the national spirit in our country's great process of building socialism with Chinese characteristics and achieving a moderately prosperous society in all respects. It will also serve to educate the people, especially the younger generation, in patriotism and the cultivation of national spirit.
