Features: This book starts by introducing the rules of the IETF, with Chapter 1 covering the development history of the Internet and the IETF, the internal organizational structure of the IETF, the status of IETF working groups and meetings, as well as the process of creating and modifying IETF standards. Chapter 2 explains the macro structure of the Internet and related standards. Based on the architecture and layered model of the Internet, it introduces the technologies of six layers: the network interface layer, network layer, transport layer, application layer, network management, and network security. For each layer, it begins with the basic principles, then introduces the important technologies and IETF-related standards of that layer, and finally discusses the IETF working groups associated with that layer. Chapters 3–8 introduce the six fields of the Internet—routing, transport, application, operation and management, and security—according to the research areas of the IETF working groups. Each field covers the working groups and cutting-edge technologies within it, including the goals and tasks of the working groups, the chairs of the working groups, representative RFCs of the working groups, and finally an analysis of the future development prospects of the working groups from the author's perspective. In Chapter 9, after analyzing Internet culture and IETF philosophy, the author presents their thoughts and suggestions on China's participation in the development of Internet standards. This book is suitable for researchers and developers engaged in Internet-related work, as well as for undergraduate and graduate students as a reference for introductory courses on the Internet.
