Features: Whether it is a critique of urban civilization or an understanding of the duality of urban civilization, it reflects the sensitive insight and analytical ability of modernist poets in perceiving the modern civilization that embodies urban characteristics and urban cultural temperament. At the same time, modernist poets, as "urban dwellers," suggest the emotions and psychological characteristics of urban dwellers—whether excited or melancholic, restless or lonely—in the mists of the urban environment. New Poetry and Cultural Essays is a collection of essays on new poetry, with the writing period of the sixteen essays spanning over twenty years. Most of them have been published in academic journals, and some essays have been fully reprinted or introduced in publications such as the Research on Contemporary and Modern Literature by the Renmin University Literature Data Center. Many contents of the essays have been taught in undergraduate courses such as The History of Chinese Modern Literature Theory and Criticism (Part on Poetry), Aesthetics of New Poetry, Cultural New Poetry Studies, Research on Dai Wangshu, and New Poetry Lectures. The collected articles are roughly divided into three parts: The first part includes about ten articles that generally study important issues in the relationship between new poetry and culture. The second part includes two articles on the methodology of new poetry criticism, in response to the "methodology fever" in the literary and art circles. The third part includes two articles that were submitted as academic papers during the Hong Kong Literature and World Chinese Literature conferences, which can be considered as "poetology."
