Features: These are two rivers that once converged on the main road against feudalism, but most of the time, they diverged. At the end of these two rivers, they seem to rejoin, but they do not return to the same destination. Such rivers, which cannot flow together but cannot be separated, roam across the land, forming one of the most brilliant landscapes in the intellectual and cultural circles of the last century. Following these two rivers, the hidden currents beneath the dense branches and leaves—whether the open waters, narrow bends, underwater rocks, or roadside cannons—may all be clearly revealed to the world. While feeling the winter sun on the river surface and the summer breeze, people can also experience the biting cold wind on the river and the heavy weight of history beneath it.
As for friends, not all are necessarily "on the same wavelength." This kind of friend may have different temperaments and personalities, and different aspirations and paths. They may have disagreements and fierce debates, but they can always maintain a precious friendship. Especially when one is in danger, they often extend a helping hand, and when one faces difficulties, they often show sincere concern. Why is this so? The key is that they can be honest with each other, without harboring grudges, and respect and tolerate each other. In reality, this is a great virtue, a great heart, and a great spirit. Chen Duxiu and Hu Shih could be said to be such friends. In modern Chinese history, both Chen Duxiu and Hu Shih can be considered towering figures. During the May Fourth Movement, they once became fellow warriors with the same aspirations, jointly launching the "New Culture Movement" and advocating the "Literary Revolution." However, as the New Culture Movement deepened, Chen Duxiu became a communist, while Hu Shih remained a bourgeois democrat. Later, they had ideological disagreements and intense debates on many issues. Despite this, their deep personal friendship remained intact.
