Features: One of the core issues in the reform of talent cultivation models in higher education institutions is the construction of a teaching knowledge system that aligns with modern societal concepts and reflects the level of technological progress. An ideal university teaching knowledge system should possess contemporaneity, advancement, academic rigor, and relevance, and this is specifically manifested in the textbook systems and curriculum content that showcase these advanced ideas and characteristics.
Globally, undergraduate education in higher education institutions is increasingly emphasizing the cultivation of students' physical and mental qualities as well as their mastery of foundational knowledge and skills, which has become one of the main trends in the reform and development of higher education teaching. General education is gaining prominence among university administrators, teachers, and students due to its focus on fostering scientific and humanistic spirits, promoting holistic human development, and emphasizing interdisciplinary, broad, and integrated knowledge.
In China, since the early 1990s, higher education institutions have carried out extensive innovations in undergraduate talent cultivation models, curriculum systems, textbook content, and professional development under the guidance of the "cultural quality education" philosophy, aiming to correct the long-standing tendencies of premature specialization and excessive specialization in undergraduate teaching.
Zhejiang Normal University, Hangzhou Normal University, Wenzhou Normal University, Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences, and Huzhou Normal University are multidisciplinary higher education institutions in Zhejiang Province with a primary focus on teacher education. For many years, these five institutions have adhered to the educational policies of the Party, firmly pursued the path of reform and innovation, earnestly implemented the educational philosophy of "cultivating people first" and "strengthening universities through academics," vigorously promoted the cultural quality education reform advocated by the Ministry of Education, and engaged in extensive inter-institutional cooperation in areas such as institutional governance, curriculum design, educational research, and graduate training, achieving positive results.
The publication of the "General Education Series for Higher Education Institutions" aims to leverage the comprehensive academic strengths of the five institutions, further promote inter-institutional collaboration and the reform of undergraduate teaching in Zhejiang Province's higher education institutions, explore effective pathways to cultivate more well-rounded, knowledgeable, and capable students, and thereby make positive contributions to the development of higher education in Zhejiang Province.
