Features: Liu Yan teaches foreign literature at university, being well-versed, fond of, and deeply reflective about Chekhov and his works. During her doctoral studies in modern literature, she extensively and purposefully read the works of modern writers. From her outstanding examination, it was suggested that she choose such a topic, and she was also willing to do so. After several years of effort, she successfully completed her thesis. This book is a slightly revised version based on her doctoral dissertation. It can be said that Liu Yan has accurately grasped some "Chekhov phenomena" in modern Chinese literature in her research and strives to break through simple descriptive and comparative "influence studies." She aims to interpret the spiritual, psychological, intellectual, and personality influences of Chekhov on modern Chinese writers from a deeper level, as well as their manifestations and "implementation" in textual content structure, creative methods, aesthetic style, and other aspects. Of course, due to the inherent difficulty of the topic and other reasons, although the book has made efforts to expand and achieve commendable results, it still falls short of being complete, detailed, and profound. The author is also fully aware of this.
