How long after childbirth does lochia stop?

Patient's question:

During pregnancy, it's always particularly uncomfortable, and morning sickness is also very severe. How long after delivery did the lochia stop?

Doctor's answer:

The amount of lochia discharge varies from person to person. Some have more, while others have less. Basically, in the first few days after childbirth, the lochia contains more blood, so it may appear red or dark red with blood clots and a slightly fishy odor. By the third or fourth day postpartum, the color of the lochia gradually becomes lighter and turns brown, known as serous lochia. By the tenth day, the lochia turns white or yellowish-white, somewhat similar to leukorrhea, referred to as leukorrhea lochia.
