What are the symptoms of kidney stones?

Patient's question:

My ultrasound report: Right renal pelvis dilation, approximately 4.7×1.1cm, no obvious stone shadows seen in the right kidney. Right upper ureter 0.9cm. Is this a symptom of stones?

Doctor's answer:

There are many methods for treating kidney stones, such as drug-induced stone passage and dissolution therapy. Generally, stones smaller than 6mm can theoretically be passed out of the body through the ureter along with urine. It is recommended to drink a large amount of water (more than 2000ml) to ensure daily urine output of over 2000ml, engage in appropriate exercise, take oral drugs for stone passage or dissolution, and undergo positional stone passage therapy. Some stones can be successfully passed out this way. For stones larger than 6mm that are difficult to pass on their own, doctors will need to arrange for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) based on the patient's kidney function, urinary tract anatomy, and whether there is a concurrent urinary tract infection.
