Features: Daniel Defoe, born in England in 1660, was the son of an interior merchant in London. In 1674, young Defoe began studying to become a pastor. In fact, Defoe was not suited for the work of a pastor, because, like his created hero Robinson Crusoe, his life was full of adventure and excitement. In 1683, Defoe was captured by pirates. This experience, combined with the account of a Scottish sailor who had once been shipwrecked at sea, provided the inspiration for Defoe's famous novel "Robinson Crusoe." Although "Robinson Crusoe" was published only when Defoe was nearly sixty, it still brought him enduring fame. After the success of "Robinson Crusoe," Defoe wrote four more books in the following five years, including "Life," "Adventure," "The Pirate Adventures of Captain Red," and "The Great Events of the Year of Plague." Defoe died in April 1731 at the age of 70.
"Robinson Crusoe," this novel, through the self-narrative of a 17th-century maritime adventurer, depicts the protagonist Robinson Crusoe, with human wisdom and diligent labor, enduring a long and arduous life on a desolate island through continuous exploration and creation. It is a thrilling and legendary story that highlights the struggle between humans and nature. Not only is it vivid and entertaining, but it also deeply conveys the spirit of courage, resilience, and perseverance, the immense creativity of human wisdom and diligence, and the beauty of life.
