Features: Carlo Collodi (Carlo Lorenzini), whose pen name Collodi was derived from the town where his mother was born and raised. Born in 1826 into a family of cooks, Collodi attended a church school and later worked as a journalist, actively participating in the Italian national liberation movement. He wrote numerous short stories, essays, and reviews, satirizing contemporary society, showing sympathy for the poor, and advocating for democracy and national art. Driven by his love for children and hope for them, he devoted himself to the translation and creation of children's literature, writing book after book for children. Until his death in 1890, he was still conceptualizing new children's novels.
The story in "Pinocchio" is utterly fascinating. The little puppet Pinocchio loves to play and skip school. He buys a ticket to see a puppet show with the money from selling his textbooks, disrupts the theater performance, and is captured by the theater owner. Later, the owner feels sorry for him and lets him go. During his days of wandering, he encounters robbers and a fairy, and then runs off to "Land Without Care" for a few months. Unbeknownst to him, he wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a donkey and is sold to a circus. Later, he escapes to the sea, is swallowed by a shark, and surprisingly meets his father, Geppetto, inside the shark's belly. The father and son manage to escape and return to their warm home. This time, Pinocchio transforms into a young boy with chestnut hair, sky-blue eyes, and a spirited and intelligent demeanor.
In this work, the author boldly employs rich and imaginative creativity, along with appropriate exaggeration, to make the plot twists and turns, vivid, and gripping. The witty writing vividly depicts Pinocchio's inner thoughts and changes, integrating profound moral education and life philosophies into the innocent and lovable character, achieving unparalleled artistic effect. Everyone is moved by the mischievous Pinocchio and his compelling growth story, making "Pinocchio" a classic must-read for young readers worldwide.
