How can you accurately determine your ovulation day?

Patient's question:

My menstrual cycle is irregular, usually lasting 40-50 days. I want to ask how to calculate the ovulation period. My last period started on November 8th and ended on November 13th. On the 18th, I started using ovulation test strips, and until now, they have always shown two pink lines. My basal body temperature has been around 36.2°C, and today it is 36.45°C. The past two days, I also had two ultrasound scans, which showed no mature follicles.
First follow-up question: I have asked a doctor about the ovulation test strips, and the doctor said that according to the strips, ovulation should occur within 12-36 hours. However, since the 10th day after my period ended, the strips have consistently shown that I am in the ovulation period, and it has appeared.

Doctor's answer:

If your menstrual cycle is very regular, for example, if your first day of menstruation was on the 30th of last month and the first day of your next menstruation is on the 30th of this month, with a cycle of 30 days, and your previous menstrual cycles have always been 30 days, then the day of ovulation is very easy to calculate! The day of ovulation is 14 days before the day you estimate your next menstruation. That is, 30th October minus 14 days, and the day of ovulation is the 16th of October.
2. If your menstrual cycle is not regular, you can use the basal body temperature method combined with ovulation test strips to track ovulation. When the ovulation test strip shows a strong positive, it means ovulation will occur within 24 to 48 hours. If you want a more precise ovulation time, you can go to the hospital for an ultrasound to monitor ovulation on the second day after the test strip shows a strong positive. This will provide a more accurate measurement of the time of ovulation!
