Is there medication-induced abortion?

Patient's question:

My girlfriend is very afraid of pain, she doesn't dare to get a tire fixed, but we can't have the baby now either. We haven't confirmed if we are pregnant yet? But we need to be prepared earlier. If we are pregnant, what kind of medicine can be used to terminate the pregnancy directly without causing much pain?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Currently, the only painless abortion method is the painless abortion. Any other form of abortion will cause some degree of pain. However, medication abortion also requires actively going to the hospital for a detailed examination, with family members signing before the medication can be obtained.
Mechanism of Action of Medication Abortion:
Mifepristone: The primary function is as an antiprogesterone.
(1) As a progesterone antagonist, it can replace natural progesterone in acting on the endometrium, occupying the progesterone receptors on endometrial cells.
(2) Its antiprogesterone effect leads to necrosis of the decidua, detachment and bleeding, dissolving the corpus luteum, and stimulating the production of endogenous prostaglandins.
(3) It acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary, inhibiting the secretion of gonadotropins, which also leads to the dissolving of the corpus luteum.
(4) It promotes the decomposition of cervical collagen fibers, softening the cervix.
(5) It enhances the sensitivity of uterine muscles to prostaglandins.
Prostaglandins: Commonly used include carboprost and misoprostol. Their mechanism of action is as follows:
(1) Causes contractions of the uterine smooth muscle.
(2) After uterine contractions, the intrauterine pressure increases, leading to vasoconstriction of the chorionic villi, local hypoxia, and the destruction of early pregnancy maintenance mechanisms such as necrosis and degeneration of the decidua.
(3) The synthesis of cervical collagen fibers is inhibited, making the cervix soft and easy to dilate.
(4) In animals, it has been observed to dissolve the corpus luteum.
When these two drugs are used in combination, they achieve anti-implantation, cervical softening, and promote uterine contractions to achieve the purpose of abortion, making medication abortion a simple, safe, effective, low-side-effect, and low-pain method.
