Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Because I have been taking Marvelon (birth control pills), my menstruation has been very regular. I don't know why I had a small amount of bleeding this month while still on the medication, and it wasn't as much as a normal period. I have been taking the pills as prescribed, one a day without interruption, except for Panadine and Sanjiu Cold Relief, and I haven't taken any other medications. Additionally, the bleeding occurred two days after my boyfriend left, and he is still away. In the first three days of the bleeding, we didn't do anything special. I want to ask, what is going on? Why would there be bleeding when everything else is normal?Additional information: I was hiking on the day of the bleeding.
Doctor's answer:
Hello: Based on your description, it could be ovulation bleeding, or it may be related to overexertion.During the mid-cycle, i.e., the ovulation period, due to a temporary decline in estrogen levels, the endometrium loses hormonal support, leading to partial shedding of the endometrium and resulting in regular vaginal bleeding, known as ovulation bleeding. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "intermenstrual bleeding."
Treatment
1. Western medicine treatment: Diethylstilbestrol 0.25–0.5 mg per day, starting 3 days before ovulation and stopping 2–3 days after the bleeding stops.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment: Liuwei Dihuang Wan, Gujing Wan, and Xuefu Zhuyu Wan.
Prevention and Care
1. Pay attention to menstrual health, maintain cleanliness of the external genitalia, and prevent pelvic infection.
2. Keep a positive mood and avoid excessive stress.
