Is it easy to get pregnant with an anteverted uterus

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: We have been married for three years, but we have not had any children. The hospital examination revealed that my wife's uterus is retroverted, making it difficult to conceive.

Doctor's answer:

Under normal circumstances, the uterus is located centrally in the pelvis in an anteverted position. The entire cervix and uterus resemble a pair of scales, with the fulcrum at the cervix. If the uterus is in an anteverted position, the cervix points downward and backward, which is beneficial for the early development of the embryo into a fetus after mating. This is because, after coitus, semen accumulates in the posterior fornix of the vagina, causing the downward-pointing cervix to be immersed in semen, facilitating the movement of sperm into the uterine cavity and promoting pregnancy. Conversely, when the cervix is in a retroverted or retroflexed position, it assumes an upward-tilted state. During sexual intercourse, the woman adopts a supine position, so the cervix is relatively far from the semen and is less likely to be immersed in it, thereby affecting pregnancy.
Women with a uterus in a retroverted position who wish to conceive can elevate their hips for half an hour after intercourse after removing the intrauterine device (IUD). This allows the semen to fully immerse the cervix, facilitating pregnancy and avoiding the need to remove the IUD as a result.
