Is the brown thing menstruation?

Patient's question:

My last menstrual period was on October 16th. My cycle is about 25 days. This time, on November 18th, I suddenly noticed some brown substance in my underwear. I thought my period had started, but it disappeared without a trace. I started taking antithyroid medication on October 13th. Before that, my periods were basically normal. What is going on here? Please provide an explanation! First follow-up question: But it has already been more than 10 days now!! Thank you. By the way, I started taking the medication on November 14th.

Doctor's answer:

Before menstruation, brownish discharge is expelled. Brown discharge before menstruation may be caused by blood mixed with cervical mucus. This condition usually occurs about one or two days before menstruation and gradually improves over time. Additionally, factors such as stress, endocrine disorders, and external influences can also lead to brown cervical mucus. If brown cervical mucus is present regularly, it may indicate menstrual irregularities, hormonal imbalances, vaginal diseases, cervical diseases, or endometrial diseases. These gynecological conditions can all cause changes in cervical mucus color.
