What are the differences between physical and surgical treatments for cervical erosion?

Patient's question:

Medical history: Diagnosed with cervical erosion for 5 years, post-coital bleeding for 3 days.
Previous diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes: Degree 3 erosion, congestion, with one Nabothian cyst. Tried TCM suppositories (Zhìmílíng), but it didn’t help much; the condition has remained at degree 3 for 5 years.
Auxiliary tests: Ultrasound, leukorrhea smear showed no abnormalities, cervical scraping did not reveal cancer cells.
Reason for consultation: I have a family history of cancer, have not given birth yet, and am experiencing post-coital bleeding. The doctor recommended physical therapy to cure it, fearing it could develop into cervical cancer. However, we only have microwave therapy here. Will it affect fertility? Will it make the cervical opening sticky? The doctor said other...

Doctor's answer:

Physical therapy: Used for cervical erosion with a larger area of erosion and deeper inflammatory infiltration.
① Electrocautery: Using a specially designed electrocautery, the eroded tissue is burned to cause necrosis and shedding. It must reach a certain depth for effective treatment.
② Cryotherapy: Using a specially designed rapid freezing device, the diseased tissue of the cervical erosion is frozen, necrotized, and shed. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryogenic agent, allowing the cryoprobe temperature to reach -196°C. It is placed on the surface of the cervix to freeze and necrotize the eroded tissue, leading to shedding and the growth of new squamous epithelial tissue. It can be cured in one session. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, although some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain.
③ Laser therapy: Carbon dioxide laser therapy is commonly used. The specially designed laser treatment head is used to irradiate the eroded cervical tissue, causing carbonization, scab formation, and shedding, followed by the growth of new squamous epithelial tissue. It can usually be cured in one session. There is no special discomfort during the procedure, although some patients may experience bleeding during scab shedding.
④ KS device treatment: This involves the use of special wavelength photothermal therapy, which is painless and highly effective. During the treatment with the above methods, attention should be paid to maintaining external genital hygiene, and activities such as sexual intercourse, vaginal irrigation, and sitz baths should be avoided. Regular follow-up examinations should also be conducted to monitor the healing of the erosion.
