Features: This series of books is published to meet the needs of elderly bird-and-flower painting enthusiasts. The first five volumes on flower painting techniques focus on the basic skills of brushwork, ink, color, water, and composition for representative flowers such as plum blossoms and peonies, as well as detailed introductions to over 60 nearby herbaceous, woody, and vine-type flowers. The books are richly illustrated with images and include demonstrations by renowned artists. The content is thorough, enabling readers to grasp the painting techniques of these flowers, making them an excellent companion for leisure and self-cultivation for the elderly. Techniques for painting birds (Volumes 6-10) will be published next year. This volume primarily covers the painting techniques of herbaceous flowers, including chrysanthemums, tropical orchids, anthuriums, and bananas. It also provides a general introduction to the painting techniques of flowers like lilyturf, calla lilies, impatiens, silver-star roses, cyclamen, and bird-of-paradise flowers, which are often used as companions in recent years. Chrysanthemums are a common theme in freehand floral painting. In traditional literati painting, the "Four Gentlemen," one of which is the chrysanthemum, has been a favored subject. This volume dedicates significant space to explaining the traditional techniques of outlining, dotting, and coloring chrysanthemums with detailed text and illustrations. It also discusses the coloring and brushwork of rare varieties that were less commonly covered in previous painting manuals from the perspective of observation. Additionally, the painting technique of calceolarias is briefly explained. Tropical orchids are prized ornamental flowers that have frequently appeared in flower exhibitions in recent years. This volume provides a detailed introduction to representative varieties, covering their structural and morphological characteristics and painting techniques. Anthuriums are also popular common flowers. This volume introduces different coloring and brushwork techniques for both large and medium-sized anthuriums, as well as the brushwork features and methods for their leaves. Bananas are often used as companions for flowers of the same season in paintings, such as orchids and bamboos, which are frequently used as foreground accents. From the perspective of being a standalone subject in composition, bananas are also an indispensable theme in freehand floral painting.
