Features: The history in this book is mainly carried by physical artifacts and narrated through images of these artifacts. The term "modern" here is slightly different from the general definition used in textbooks. Based on certain special characteristics of clothing development, we have defined the time frame of the narrative as between the Opium War and the founding of the People's Republic of China. Although the title broadly mentions women's clothing, the book can only record the attire of women in relatively developed and affluent areas who had the opportunity to be exposed to fashion. The artifacts and images used in this book are mostly collections from the Donghua University Museum of Clothing and Accessories. Readers may notice that compared to similar works, they are not as glamorous and colorful. This is because the museum, which will open in 2005, collects artifacts with a focus on everyday clothing. We hope these collections can more comprehensively and authentically reflect people's clothing lives in different settings at that time.
