Patient's question:
Irregular menstruationDoctor's answer:
Treatment Methods for Cervical Erosion1. Medication Treatment: For small erosion areas with superficial inflammation, the following medication treatments can be used. First, local medication should be applied 3-4 times per week, with 5 applications constituting one course. Second, potassium permanganate can be used. Local medication should be applied after menstruation, followed by a repeat treatment after 1-2 months. When using these medications, caution must be exercised to prevent burns to the surrounding vaginal walls. Additionally, sterilization should be ensured during medication to prevent reinfection.
2. Physical Treatment: Used for larger erosion areas with deeper inflammation. There are relatively more methods for physical treatment of cervical erosion, which we will discuss one by one below.
1. Electrocautery: A special electrocautery device is used to burn the erosion tissue, causing it to necrose and fall off. It is important to achieve a certain depth for effective treatment.
2. Cryotherapy: A special rapid freezing device is used to freeze and necrose the diseased tissue on the erosion area, causing it to fall off. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryogenic agent, which can lower the temperature of the cryoprobe to -196°C. When applied to the surface of the cervix, the erosion tissue freezes, necroses, and falls off, allowing new squamous epithelial tissue to regenerate. One treatment is usually sufficient. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, though some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain during the healing process.
3. Laser Treatment: Carbon dioxide laser treatment is commonly used. A special laser treatment head is applied to the erosion tissue, causing it to carbonize, form a scab, and fall off, followed by the growth of new squamous epithelial tissue. One treatment is usually sufficient. There is no special discomfort during the procedure, though some patients may experience bleeding when the scab falls off.
4. KS Instrument Treatment: This method uses special wavelength photothermal therapy, which is painless and highly effective. During treatment with any of the above methods, it is important to maintain cleanliness of the external genitalia, avoid sexual activity, vaginal douching, and sitz baths. Regular follow-up examinations should also be conducted to monitor the healing of the erosion area.
3. Surgical Treatment: For cases where medication and physical treatment are ineffective, or when the erosion is deep or covers a large area, or when the cervix is enlarged or suspected of cancer, cervical conization or total hysterectomy may be considered.
