Features: Based on the authors' frontline teaching experience in preparing graduating students for the English middle school entrance exam, we have compiled 25 sets of timed training exercises for junior high school English reading ability, following the original format of the exam's reading questions. Each set of exercises is designed as a template for the English middle school entrance exam reading section, including 1 cloze test and 4 reading comprehension passages. The reason for combining cloze tests and reading comprehension in this training is that these two are the main question types in English exams that assess reading ability and are also the most challenging parts for many students. Additionally, they account for the largest proportion of the English exam score in the, so the authors believe that these two components should not be trained in isolation. The exercises in the book are arranged from easy to difficult, with each set recommended to be completed within 45 minutes. Students can set fixed times each week to conduct the training according to their own circumstances. During training, record the start and end times, and after completing the exercises, summarize the results, calculate the time spent and accuracy rate. After a period of training, evaluate whether your English reading ability has improved and by how much. Whether the time taken decreases or the correct answer rate improves, it is progress. Moreover, as the exercises progress, the questions become more challenging, and students should take this into account when assessing their performance.
According to the difficulty coefficient regulations for reading passages in the new English curriculum standards, the book lists the difficulty coefficient for each passage at the end for reference. Among them: 70-80 indicates a relatively difficult passage to read; 80-90 indicates an easy passage to read; and 90-100 indicates a very easy passage to read. The higher the difficulty coefficient, the easier the passage is to read, but this does not necessarily mean that the questions associated with the passage are easy. Each set of exercises is followed by answer explanations, and at the beginning of the book, detailed techniques for solving cloze tests and reading comprehension questions are explained. We hope that students will carefully reflect and summarize while reading this book, and through extensive training, achieve a proficient application of these techniques.
