Features: The classification of folk fables selected in this book is an attempt, and it may not be entirely scientific. However, the compilers still hope that such an arrangement will be beneficial to readers, especially for young people and those with limited exposure to folk literature. After compiling this book, the compilers often sigh in secret: the heritage of folk literature in our country is truly a treasure trove, invaluable. The selected folk fables in this book generally follow the following principles: 1. Some classic and typical forms of folk fables passed down orally from generation to generation among various ethnic groups are chosen; 2. A considerable number of fables are recorded in China's classical texts, and parts of them are selected, including those with clear oral storytelling characteristics and those that focus on folk figures and social phenomena; 3. Some fables are universal, collected from Aesop's Fables or other foreign traditions, and are included in this book for appreciation and study; 4. The book has selected oral literature such as animal stories, short stories, legends, and jokes, which are not strictly fables, resulting in many new pieces rich in fable-like meaning; 5. They are both traditional and newly collected, both narrow and broad in definition, both Han and ethnic minority, and both oral and artistic in nature, as well as readable.
