Features: This book is a basic German textbook for adult higher education and can also be used as a teaching material for public foreign language programs or second foreign language courses in universities and foreign language colleges. The book is divided into two parts: Basic German and Intermediate German. Each part is designed for a teaching period of one academic year, with 6 hours of instruction per week, totaling 40 weeks to complete. Upon completion of Basic German, students will reach the level of Grundstufe III in German foreign language colleges; upon completion of Intermediate German, they will reach the level of Mittelsstufe III. To adapt to the characteristics of adult education, the book emphasizes practical application in material selection, features a systematic grammar structure with detailed explanations, and includes a large number of exercises. To facilitate self-study, the book is accompanied by audio cassettes for pronunciation and texts, as well as a study guide. The second edition of Basic German has been reprinted nine times since its release in 2000. To better align the textbook with the changing realities of Germany and German language learning, and in line with the new concept of student-oriented foreign language teaching, the authors have revised the textbook based on five years of teaching experience in the following aspects: selecting pronunciation examples in accordance with German phonetic rules in a progressive manner to make the pronunciation section more systematic and easier to read; indicating word stress symbols in the glossaries of text words and the general vocabulary list; revising some grammar chapters based on teaching practice to enhance the clarity and readability of grammar explanations; and supplementing the content of texts and reading materials related to German culture to reflect the evolving situation in Germany.
