Features: After the IELTS High Score series, a set of IELTS books compiled by the Langdao Training Center and published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, was launched and was well-received and highly praised by a wide range of readers, especially IELTS test-takers. On the other hand, some IELTS students also provided valuable feedback on the use of this series and pointed out certain shortcomings. In light of this, in the fall of 2004, the IELTS editorial team at Langdao worked together to comprehensively revise and redesign the IELTS High Score series. Not only did they add many new IELTS test questions, but the overall style was also made closer to the actual IELTS exam.
First, there is IELTS High Score: Listening. We removed some rarely-occurring listening scenarios from the original book and added many frequently-appearing listening scenarios that have appeared repeatedly in recent IELTS exams. Correspondingly, we deleted some unsuitable and obscure words or phrases in the listening scenario vocabulary and supplemented the newly-compiled high-frequency listening scenario vocabulary by the IELTS teaching department. Additionally, to enhance test-takers' overall grasp of the listening exam, we added two completely new IELTS listening practice tests, many of which reflect the trends of recent IELTS listening exams.
Next, IELTS High Score: Reading. This book is the one that has undergone the most significant changes, almost like a complete transformation. We replaced the original Chapters 1 and 2 with Chapter 1: IELTS Reading Question Types and Techniques Explained. This section introduces nine possible question types in IELTS reading through an engaging reading passage and provides a detailed analysis of the solving methods and techniques for each type. Then, we replaced the original Chapters 3 and 4 with Chapter 2: IELTS Reading Key Question Types Specialized Training. This section is divided into five subsections, providing examples of the five most common IELTS reading question types and selecting a large number of typical IELTS reading passages to accompany them. The ten reading passages in the original book's Chapter 5, "IELTS Reading Practice Tests," seemed somewhat outdated and lacked attention to the IELTS General Training (abbreviated as G) module. We transformed this into Chapters 3 and 4 in the new book, providing four new IELTS practice tests separately for the academic and general training modules.
As for IELTS High Score: Writing, since the original writing book had a strong academic and practical writing style, we made almost no changes to it. We only adjusted the layout and design to make it more aligned with the IELTS exam style.
