Features: From the founding of the People's Republic of China to 1966, it was a peak period for the creation and publication of long novels in China. Over a decade, a large number of works were produced, among which dozens had a far-reaching influence and reached the height of their time. These works adhered to the principles of socialist realism, employing enthusiastic passion and simple artistic expression to celebrate the arduous struggles and vibrant spirit of the Chinese people during different historical periods, including the War of Liberation, the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the War of Liberation, and the construction of socialism. They represented the highest achievements of long novel creation during that period and occupied an extremely important position in the history of contemporary Chinese literature. With their unique charm, they influenced generations of readers and have endured the test of time to this day. To present a more complete picture of the development of contemporary long novels and the state of long novel creation during that period, we have specially compiled and published the "Collected Works of Contemporary Chinese Long Novels" series.
"": The novel takes the struggle between the three generations of the Zhu Laozhong and Yan Zhihe families and the two generations of the Feng Laolan family as its main thread, depicting the anti-head tax movement led by the Communist Party of China and the student strikes at Baoding Normal School. It artistically summarizes the class struggles and revolutionary movements in rural and urban areas of northern China before and after the Great Revolution, reflecting the historical process of Chinese peasant revolution from spontaneous resistance to organized struggle. In revealing the peasant issue of the Chinese democratic revolution and the relationship between peasants and the democratic revolution led by the Communist Party, it achieves a breadth and depth that can be considered a culmination among novels reflecting peasant issues since the May Fourth Movement. It not only truthfully portrays the fluctuations of the nation's history and the evolution of peasant hearts but also recreates the path of Chinese peasants toward revolution, summarizing the historical experience of peasant class struggles over two thousand years. It vividly demonstrates that only under the correct leadership of the Communist Party of China, organized and united, can the peasants achieve victory in their struggles. It is precisely this point that reveals the essential characteristics of the democratic revolution, and its reflection of the history of the New Democratic Revolution has achieved a harmonious combination of life's breadth and ideological depth.
