The book is divided into eight chapters.
Chapter 1 explores the general theory of international trade innovation from the perspectives of innovation, innovation systems, and the basic economics of international trade innovation, pointing out that innovation is the fundamental driving force and main operational characteristic of modern social and economic development.
Chapter 2 summarizes the practice of international trade innovation since the 1990s and clearly proposes the proposition of China's foreign trade innovation. It introduces the concept of trade gravity and establishes a trade gravity model, conducting an empirical analysis of trade gravity for 20 countries.
Chapter 3 analyzes China's foreign trade innovation environment from two aspects: international politics and security, and the new developments in economic globalization.
Chapter 4 discusses the relationship between new trade theory and China's foreign trade innovation, attempting to establish a theoretical foundation for China's foreign trade innovation and clarifying that new trade theory and its developments are an important theoretical basis for China's foreign trade innovation.
Chapter 5 analyzes the close connection between the knowledge economy, information economy, and China's foreign trade innovation, aiming to provide a practical foundation for China's foreign trade innovation.
Chapter 6 studies the relationship between China's open economy operation and foreign trade innovation, focusing on several specific yet important issues under China's open economy conditions, including reforms in foreign trade property rights structure and innovation, transaction costs in China's foreign trade, industrial cluster development and innovation in the spatial pattern of China's export product production, and the status of China's three-year transition period after joining the World Trade Organization.
Chapter 7 elaborates on the significance, objectives, content, and conditions of China's foreign trade innovation, systematically proposing a framework and ideas for the construction of China's foreign trade innovation system. It argues that China's foreign trade innovation system is composed of four subsystems: the dynamic supply system, capability generation system, institutional cultivation system, and technical support system. These subsystems are interdependent and indispensable, forming an organic whole thats the operation of China's foreign trade innovation system.
Chapter 8 systematically discusses the strategic innovation, institutional innovation, and policy innovation in China's foreign trade, clarifying the focus of China's foreign trade innovation in the coming period.
