Can IGM positive women continue to get pregnant?

Patient's question:

My partner was diagnosed with IGM positivity in July 2004. No treatment was administered. In subsequent follow-up tests over the following months, the result remained positive. Later, they visited another hospital where the doctor prescribed azithromycin for two weeks, but the result was still positive upon retesting. After switching to taking spiramycin for nearly a month, the result remained positive. Approximately one month later, after taking several doses of traditional Chinese medicine as recommended in books, the test result turned negative (-). Three months later, they became pregnant and are now three months into the pregnancy. However, the IGM test result is still positive ( ).
Is it safe to continue the pregnancy under these circumstances? Is the risk of the fetus being infected very high? Should we wait until after the fifth month (20 weeks) to perform cord blood testing before making a decision?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, syphilis positivity can easily lead to congenital syphilis because treatment may result in negative results. It is recommended to investigate the cause and check for the possibility of a false positive. If it is confirmed to be positive, and the clinical doctor determines that it poses a significant risk to the fetus, pregnancy termination may be necessary. Specific cases should be decided by the clinical doctor based on the patient's condition. If at 5 months, the only option is mid-trimester induction of labor, and general abortion methods cannot be used.
