Features: This book is based on the requirements of secondary vocational and technical education and the National Vocational Standard for Computer (Microcomputer) Maintenance Technicians. It comprehensively and systematically introduces the main components of microcomputers (Central Processing Unit, motherboard, memory modules, chassis and power supply), storage devices (floppy disk drives, hard disk drives, mobile storage devices, CD-ROM drives), multimedia devices (DVD-ROM drives, sound cards, speakers, multimedia adapters, webcams), network devices (modems, network interface cards, and hubs), input devices (keyboards and mice, scanners, digital cameras, other input systems), and output devices (display cards, monitors, dot matrix printers, inkjet printers, and laser printers). The book focuses on the classification, main technical specifications, basic working principles, and usage methods of these hardware components, as well as the assembly methods of microcomputer components and system software (Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP) and the maintenance methods of microcomputer systems. It provides detailed explanations of system setup, testing, optimization, upgrading, repair procedures, routine inspection methods, and maintenance and virus removal of software (e.g., Windows, system registry). The appendix includes the National Vocational Standard for Computer (Microcomputer) Maintenance Technicians. The content of this book is systematic, concise, and strives to be up-to-date, easy to understand, illustrated, and highly practical. It can serve as teaching material for teachers and students in secondary vocational and technical education and secondary specialized schools, as well as for intermediate vocational qualification training for computer (microcomputer) maintenance technicians and for computer enthusiasts. The book is also accompanied by an electronic teaching reference package, including electronic lesson plans, teaching guides, and answer keys (in electronic format). For details, please refer to the preface.
[Preface] Since the publication of the second edition of Computer Assembly and Maintenance in January 2002, it has been used as teaching material in several vocational and technical schools and has been printed ten times. The second edition has been in circulation for over three years, during which time new computer components and technologies have continuously emerged, making some of the content in the second edition somewhat outdated. Therefore, the third edition of Computer Assembly and Maintenance has undergone significant additions, deletions, and adjustments to adapt to the development and changes in the field of computers. Secondary vocational and technical education aims to cultivate high-quality laborers and intermediate specialized talents who meet the requirements of socialist modernization, with comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and aesthetics, and possess comprehensive vocational abilities. This book is based on the training objectives of secondary vocational and technical education and the National Vocational Standard for Computer (Microcomputer) Maintenance Technicians. After studying this textbook, students (especially those majoring in computer science) will be able to master the performance, usage methods, and common repairs of basic microcomputer system components, develop strong hands-on skills in assembling microcomputers, system setup, testing, and maintenance and optimization, and become intermediate computer (microcomputer) maintenance technicians as specified by the National Vocational Standard.
This book is based on the current mainstream Pentium-level multimedia microcomputers and provides detailed introductions to various popular components, such as motherboards, central processing units, memory modules, floppy disk drives and disks, hard disk drives, CD-ROM drives and CDs, display cards and monitors, video cards and TV reception cards, sound cards and speakers, webcams, printers, scanners, digital cameras, modems, network interface cards, and hubs. It covers their classification, technical characteristics, selection principles, basic working principles, common usage and maintenance methods, and how to assemble them into a multimedia microcomputer, as well as how to reasonably configure and optimize software and hardware. It also briefly introduces the installation of Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the installation of common drivers, the basic operations of cloning software, and the application of the system registry. It explains the methods of setting up peer-to-peer networks, connecting to the internet via modems, the causes of faults in multimedia microcomputer systems, repair procedures and principles, routine inspection methods, and daily maintenance and repairs.
The content of this book is comprehensive, rich, and practical, with an emphasis on up-to-date components and easy-to-understand language. Through studying this book, readers can correctly master practical maintenance methods, repair and maintain microcomputers using simple tools and at high speeds, and become national-level intermediate technicians.
This book is edited by Senior Lecturer Chen Guoxian, with contributions from Yi Shichang, Lin Lifen, and You Xiangning, and reviewed by Senior Lecturer Lin Dong. They have provided many valuable suggestions for the book's compilation.
