Patient's question:
What is the difference between tubal hydrotubation and tubal irrigation? Please explain in detail, thank you!Doctor's answer:
Hello: Water is used for irrigation, and blue dye is used for fluid testing. Both fallopian tube hydrotubation and fluid testing require examination between the third and seventh day after the patient's menstrual period ends. At least three days of abstinence from sexual activity are required before the examination, and a vaginal discharge test should be performed to rule out vaginitis. However, fluid testing has significant limitations. It is only a blind testing method that can only roughly determine whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed and cannot detect other issues. Additionally, excessive pressure during the test can lead to fallopian tube (hydrops), and in severe cases, it may cause fallopian tube rupture. It is essentially a method that has been largely phased out.
