Is a rise in basal body temperature a sign of pregnancy?

Patient's question:

Today, my basal body temperature was 0.2 degrees higher than yesterday. Also, I've had a constant urge to have a bowel movement all day. It's the 15th day after my period, and I had intercourse two days ago. I'm not sure if this could be a sign of pregnancy.

Doctor's answer:

Hello; This is not necessarily the case, as it varies from person to person. Generally, if you are pregnant, your body temperature may be slightly higher than usual. If you are trying to conceive, you can wait and see. If your period is delayed, you can use a pregnancy test kit three or four days after the delay to check if you are pregnant. If you are pregnant, it is usually detectable at that time.
If your menstrual cycle is regular, but you have not had your period on schedule this time, and your basal body temperature has been above 37 degrees for more than three weeks, after ruling out other feverish conditions, it can be considered early pregnancy.
