How to deal with recurrent candidal vaginitis

Patient's question:

Hello Expert:
Over the past few years, I have been constantly suffering from candidiasis. I have followed the doctor's medication, but it just doesn't seem to get better. The condition worsens whenever it rains, and now it's even worse—I experience symptoms almost every month, especially before my period arrives. Every time it flares up, I use nystatin, hoping someone can help me. How should I treat this to ensure it never recurs again? Each time it occurs, I feel extremely uncomfortable.
Thank you!!!!

Doctor's answer:

Hello:
Candidiasis vulvovaginitis is a vaginal infection caused by the fungus Candida albicans. It has a high incidence rate and is prone to recurrence, making it a common gynecological condition.
For recurrent candidiasis vulvovaginitis, the first step is to eliminate the underlying causes that lead to repeated Candida infections in the vagina. Treatment should also be prolonged and involve multiple therapeutic approaches. Local treatment can include first using traditional Chinese herbal medicine for fumigation and sitz baths, followed by medication insertion into the vagina and topical application of antifungal ointment. Local treatment can be performed throughout the menstrual cycle, with medication cessation during menstruation and resumption after the menstrual period ends. Oral itraconazole (200 mg per dose, once daily after meals) should be taken for three consecutive days. This treatment should be maintained for 1–2 months.
Only when gynecological examinations and microscopic tests of vaginal secretions are normal for three consecutive months can the condition be considered fully cured.
