Vaginal itching is a fungal vaginitis?

Patient's question:

Vaginal itching. It also comes with a sense of pain. The inner part of the vagina also has itching accompanied by a feeling of pain. There are symptoms of frequent urination, urgency to urinate, and painful urination. However, there is little discharge. It is not like cottage cheese in texture. There is also no unpleasant odor. I want to ask, is this a fungal vaginal infection? Because I had this disease last month. But after being treated at the hospital for a while, I felt better. Did it come back? Or is it another type of inflammation?

Doctor's answer:

Hello:
Your condition should still be candidiasis (yeast infection), but whether it has been cured depends on the treatment standards for candidiasis: Currently, the drugs used clinically to treat fungal vulvitis and vaginitis are mostly imidazole medications, which have excellent antifungal effects. Therefore, after oral and topical treatment, symptoms will improve or disappear quickly. However, this does not mean the vulvovaginal candidiasis has been completely cured—it only means that the yeast has been temporarily suppressed. Patients must not stop taking the medication at this point and should follow the doctor's advice to complete the treatment course (medication can be paused during menstruation). After menstruation ends, a gynecological examination and microscopic examination of vaginal secretions should be performed at the hospital. If the results are negative, it is considered recently cured. Further treatment may be required if necessary. Only when both gynecological examinations and microscopic examinations of vaginal secretions are normal for three consecutive months can it be considered completely cured.
Additionally, you should also pay attention to whether there are any other concurrent infections.
